Fair Weather

Yesterday we went to turn in our Texas plates at the DMV office. The car now has Illinois plates and a Crystal Lake tax sticker and the only thing we're missing is an Illinois license. They make you take a written test in Illinois!

We also went to the McHenry County Fair, where we saw lots of sheep (Stacy wanted to chase down fleece), ate funnel cake (like you're supposed to do), saw the home economics entries (we decided that we're entering SCA A&S stuff in no less than five categories next year), sat in a 50 pound portable hot tub (and wished for money), rode rides (like we were five), talked to beekeepers (and set a tentative date to go harvest honey in a couple weeks - that's right folks, we might be brewing mead with honey we harvested ourselves) and all in all had a great evening.

And when we walked to the car, hand in hand, we were almost chilly. It was 66 degrees. We drove home with the windows down. It was a great first date night in Crystal Lake.

Talking or thinking about our friends back home makes us gets misty eyed still, and we find that we're constantly misty eyed. ("I know so-and-so would love this!" "I wish they were here to see this!" "Oh, wow, doesn't that remind you of ...")

I meant to send this last night but I was too tired to finish; this morning, we're back to conquering boxes.
